Wednesday was a stressful day - as it seemed for everyone. Can you say a high of 24 degrees? A man snapped at me while I was waiting to order a latte. “The line is this way” he snips, pointing to his right. (I was on his left). Not only was he the only one there but he had already ordered, paid and was waiting for his coffee.

My yoga instructor reflected that the reason the holidays are so stressful is that by nature, all creatures need to slow down and draw in during the winter. Hibernate. Reserve walnuts. Yet we have chosen this time as our most active, most social and most consuming.

Last night I made dinner and decided to attack the rest of the day tomorrow. I turned on the tv and to my delight “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” was on. And it made me really happy. I’ve never been much for the religious aspect of the holidays and I have severly pared down my shopping list (home made gifts are the best). My joy of Christmas is about holiday parties, friends and family and sharing the Who-Hash and Roast Beast.

Every time I watch one of those Christmas cartoons I realize how short they are. When I was five, those thirty minutes felt like “Gone With the Wind”. Epic. Now its just a spurt, a hiccup. But what a much needed and appreciated break from the Merry Chanakwanza Madness.
